Obituary for Maisie Patey

Surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, Mom passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, in Gander Newfoundland at the age of 78 on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

Mom will be missed beyond measure by me, Annette (Roger); her granddaughter, Cayley who she adored with all her heart; Special family members, Maurice, Angeline, Nadia Kelly and Alicia Babineau (Tony); Nephew, Jeff (Carolyn) Currie; Niece, Angela Currie; Sisters-in-law Rita Currie, Margaret Patey and Phoebe (Ken) Lavallee; special family friend Judy Gillard; her grand-puppy, Charlie and extended family members and friends.
She will be missed immensely by her Baywatch Manor family in Glovertown, where she resided for the past five years.

Mom was small in stature but had a huge heart. If she knew you were coming for a visit, it is guaranteed you would have left the house with a full belly and some sweet treats for the road. She was quite the crafter and could make and sew anything. I remember falling asleep to the sound of her knitting needles clicking together on several occasions. Every one of my dolls, including myself had an outfit knitted by her and many people have received her amazing creations. She was always up for a good game of cards and when she brought out the scrabble board, you knew you were at the house until midnight at least. She made sure there was a present under our Christmas tree for every one of my friends and they may have gotten at least two Christmas dinners that year. She was a “second Mom” to many, but the best Mom to me.

Mom is now reunited with Dad (Ross) who she missed every day with all her heart.
She is also predeceased by her son-by-heart, Asa Kelly; brother, Roy Currie; nephew, David and parents Thomas and Flora Rose.

I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Baywatch Manor for the love provided to Mom over her time there. I knew she was always cared for and loved dearly by you all and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Thank you to Maurice and Angeline for rushing across the province to be with Mom in her last few days and giving me the support and love that I dearly needed. Thank you to Judy Gillard for being with Mom when I could not and for providing me the spiritual guidance and a full belly I desperately needed. Thank you to Rev. Owen for visiting Mom on numerous occasions to provide her comfort and prayer. You will never know how much your visits meant to her and to me. Thank you to her nursing staff at James Paton Memorial Hospital, especially “Nurse Dan.” Dan you are an angel. The love and dignity you showed Mom while under your care will be always remembered. Thank you to all who have sent messages and phone call during Moms’ illness and after her passing.

As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. A celebration of her life will take place next summer at St. Edward’s Anglican Church, Glovertown, at a time and date to be announced.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, your local SPCA or charity of your choice.
