Condolence: Gil was an inspiring educational figure in my upbringing. I believe he provided a remarkable learning environment for me, and indeed, for all students. We had opportunities at our school that was the envy of most rural schools in Newfoundland (and probably rural schools countrywide). Gil understood the big picture better than most, allocating support and funding for the arts. He fostered programming that is unheard of in todays mediocre school system. Opportunities to experiment and take risks flourished for every student in visual arts, musical theatre, instrumental band, rock band, choral, dance etc. Wow. How lucky we were to grow up and have such caring leadership in Gilbert.
To Sheldon and family, please accept our deepest sympathies, but know that Gil made an indelible mark on my life and for that, thank you very much Mr. Stone. You will be missed by me.

I am so sorry to hear about Gil's death. He was a great principal to work for and a wonderful friend. Unfortunately I am out of the province right now so I won't get to the visitation or service, which pains me greatly. I need to pay my respects to him. Condolence: To the Stone family. Saddened to hear of Mr. Stone’s passing but grateful for his enormous contribution and influence as my cub leader, biology teacher and school principal. When I started my teaching career, he told me to always be prepared for class and to be always mindful of an individual student’s life circumstance when having to discipline. Sincere condolences and sorry for your loss.

Condolence: I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Gil’s death. Quite a few years ago when I worked at the school in Glovertown, I had the privilege of working as school secretary for Gil. I couldn’t have worked for a nicer person. A couple of years ago I ran into him at the mall. It was so good to see him again and to see that wonderful smile. May you hold your memories very close to your heart and may those and the love and support from family and friends, help you through the difficult days ahead.
